Issues We Treat | Depression

Depression

If you are overwhelmed by painful feelings of sadness, anger, and hopelessness, Ethos can help shed some light when depression makes life seem dark and dreary.  We will guide you through the process to regain joy and excitement about life and show you how to recognize, accept, and cope with your depression to get you started. If your depression is involved with an experience of grief or loss, we will walk with you through the grieving process, which is essential to healing.

Depression affects relationships, so we work on social skills to improve interaction with family and friends, while developing a network of supportive, healthy relationships to keep you from relapsing into depression.  Depression symptoms often result from the way we think, so we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you identify negative thoughts about yourself, which may be causing you to feel worthless.  Another piece of the puzzle is using CBT to identify negative thoughts about the world and those around you, which may be causing you to interpret your experiences in an especially negative way.

Do you have depression?

If you are a parent with a depressed child, the approach is somewhat similar.  Children will also experience feelings of sadness, and may be irritable because they do not know how to regulate their emotions. Children may experience physical as well as emotional symptoms, such as stomach aches, sleep changes, difficulty concentrating in school, and lack of appetite.  Our main goal is to help you or your child get back to enjoying life, and to be able to function normally and effectively with no symptoms of depression, whether at work, school, or at home.
